初步研究曾發現,β-葡聚醣有可能喚醒有助對抗癌症的細胞,例如,T細胞(T-cells)或自然殺手細胞。在動物實驗中也也顯示,β-葡聚醣能控制癌細胞的擴散;然而,2009年的《血液腫瘤科期刊》(Journal of Hematology & Oncology)的一篇研究指出,臨床實驗發現β-葡聚醣對抗癌症的效果不佳,因此葡聚醣的抗癌作用仍需更多研究才能證明。
